Art Club
-
Ms. Asplund
Art Club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and meets in the art room after school on Tuesdays,  October-June. Basically, art club consists of a series of 4-6 week projects being offered throughout the year. Some of the projects being offered include paper mache, wire sculpture, ceramics, silk screening, and tie dye t-shirts and paper making. At all times, students may choose to attend art club as a studio time to draw independently using pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel or other dry media. Students do not have to attend the entire year, but are encouraged to finish any special projects they begin. Any interested students should stop by the art room for a permission slip.

Come On In Club - Ms. Swansen
The Come On In Club is a program that gives students an opprotunity to work with the NSSED students in Ms. Swansen's class. Your job will be different each time you come in-but could involve any of the following things: playing a game, being a model for good behaviour, having conversations, or helping a student with their academic or life skills work. Most students come in once a week for 30 minutes.
Drama Club - Mrs. Shellard
Drama Club meets every Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. - 4:05 p.m. in the drama room. We are studying improvisation for the first 8 weeks with Lisa Bany-Winters a teacher from Second City.  We will be creating a show for the school to come and watch what we have learned.  Throughout the winter trimester, drama club will go on hiatus while Mrs. Shellard directs Mulan after school.  In the spring, we will begin again with other topics related to acting chosen by the students.

Interscholastic Club
Attea Middle School is one of nine schools that comprise the Central Suburban Middle School Conference. In the fall, Attea offers co-ed cross country for grades 6-8th, co-ed soccer for 7th and 8th grades, and girl’s volleyball for 7th & 8th.  The winter sports offered are girls and boys basketball for 7th and 8th grades and spirit squad.  Early spring is 7th & 8th grades boy’s volleyball.  In the spring track & field is offered for boys & girls in grades 6-8th.   Students are selected for these teams through a tryout process.  The exception to the tryout process is the sports of cross country and track & field where team roster size is limitless.  Due to roster limits in the other sports, 6th graders are only eligible to participate in cross country and track & field.  A sports physical is required for any student to participate in a clinic, tryout or practice.  For the protection of the student no one may participate without a physical on file with the school health office.  Any questions regarding interscholastics sports at Attea please call Theresa Jasonowicz, Attea Athletic Director, at 847-657-2011.

Intramurals
Intramurals are open to all Attea students. The physical education teachers with help from the staff, offer students a variety of activities. Games/matches are held 2-3 times a week, depending on the activity. Intramurals are played against other Attea students. A 4:15 bus is available for students needing a ride home. Fall intramurals include flag football and golf. Winter Intramurals include fitness & conditioning, basketball and volleyball. Spring Intramurals include softball, badminton, and soccer.
Jazz Band - Ms. Kall
Perform jazz standards and learn how to improvise with non-traditional jazz instruments.  Membership is by audition only.  Rehearsals 3:05-4:05 on Tuesdays beginning on March 4.  Audition information will be sent home in February for interested students.

Jazz Ensemble - Mr. Collins-Dowden
Perform jazz standards and learn how to improvise.  Membership is by audition only for standard instrumentation.  Rehearsals 3:05-4:05 on Mondays.

Peer Tutor
- Mrs. Witkowski and Mr. Rodriguez
The Peer Tutoring Program provides an opportunity for those students taking French or Spanish to get help with homework projects, and studying for quizzes and tests. Eighth grade students demonstrating academic excellence and leadership skills in the study of language are selected and volunteer their time as the peer tutors. Peer tutoring is a great way for students to give and get help in a relaxed, teacher support environment. It is a win-win situation for all involved. All students are welcome and encouraged to take part in this wonderful opportunity. The program is being sponsored by Mademoiselle Noonan and Senorita Liszka.

Science Olympiad - Mrs. Nathaus, Mrs. Moon and Mr. Ristow
More Information Here
A new program at Attea thanks to a generous grant from the GEF. Mr. David Ristow and Mrs. Katrina Moon heading up this new and exciting Science competition which deals with scientific exploration of physical and chemical processes and ideas. This is a great opportunity for students interested in science.

Sports4Kids - Grace K. or Officer Smith
Sports4Kids is an exciting, new program open to all 7th and 8th graders. Every Monday, peer leaders teach our NSSED students the basics of sports. These include basketball, soccer, volleyball, and diamond games. Through all of the hard work, life-long friendships are born. Our basketball unit takes place at the Park District. Location will vary with unit. You can collect True Blue Flyer Crew hours and community service hours while having fun. This is an amazing club for students looking to make a difference in someone else's life, while getting physically active.

Yearbook Club 2011-2012 - Ms. Nekola
The Attea yearbook Club is responsible for assisting in publishing the Attea Yearbook, the Pilot.  Yearbook Club is open to all students at Attea, students just need to show an interest in the club and demonstrate responsibility in completing tasks assigned to them. The Yearbook staff sponsor is Ms. Nekola, Attea's Learning Resource Specialist. Yearbook meetings are held in the LRC after school on an as needed basis. Students should listen for meeting dates during morning announcements. Being a part of theYearbook Club allows students to take part in creating lasting memories of their middle school years and is a fun way to share in the many activities at Attea.
