Celebrating the Class of 2022!

Here is a copy of the email sent to all 8th grade families about end of year events.  It is long but packed with information about celebrations for the class of 2022.

We are happy to be sharing information about the fun experiences that are planned to celebrate the class of 2022’s culmination of middle school and their transition to high school.  This letter provides all of the information about the various events, fees, permissions, and order forms.  If you have any questions, please contact the school office.  If you have any concerns about the fees and would like information about financial assistance, please contact Attea’s 8th grade social worker, Ms. Emily O’Connor at eoconnor@glenview34.org or at 847-486-7705.

The entire 8th grade class will be taking a trip to Great America on Tuesday, May 24th. The fee is $44.00 which includes the entrance to the park ($26.00), the bus ($8.00), and T-shirt ($10.00). If your child has a season pass to Great America, it will be accepted at the park and only $18.00 for the bus and T-shirt are required.  Students will be responsible for buying a lunch of their choice while at the park, so they will need to bring additional funds on the day of the trip for this purpose. As mentioned above, if you are unable to pay for the cost of the trip but would like your child to participate, financial assistance is available if you or your child contacts the team social worker, Ms. Emily O’Connor, at (847) 486-7705 or eoconnor@glenview34.org.

On the day of the trip, students must have their school ID for entry to the park.  This is a park rule and requirement.  If needed, replacement IDs can be purchased in the office. Students will leave for the trip at approximately 9:30 a.m.  All students must wear the graduation t-shirt offered by the PTA/Graduation Committee. It will be mandatory for all students attending the trip to wear this t-shirt. Wearing the shirts increases the security for our students since it enables us to identify them within a crowd of hundreds of other park visitors.  Students will enjoy “structured freedom” while at the park.  While they will be able to move throughout the park with their friends and classmates, students are REQUIRED to check in with their team teachers on two separate occasions during their time at the park AND follow Great America’s safety protocols.  (Failure to report for a check-in will result in spending the remainder of the field trip under direct supervision of a chaperone, or parents will be called to come to the park and pick up their child to end the field trip.)  In addition, students will always be able to find an Attea adult while at the park because two locations within the park will be staffed by Attea faculty members at all times during the field trip.   If students need adult assistance at any time during their time at the park, they can go to one of these spots and find a teacher ready to help them.

At the end of the day, buses will leave Great America at 6:00 p.m. and return to Attea’s parking lot at approximately 7:00 p.m. that evening.  In order to facilitate student pick-up, we ask that students pre-arrange their rides home from school.  Carpooling would certainly help alleviate the bottleneck of approximately 275 vehicles in our parking lot!

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made on the morning of May 24th whether or not we will go to the park.  Should the trip be canceled, each student who purchased a ticket will be given the Great America ticket that day, which then can be used any day during Great America’s season.  Refunds will NOT be issued.  If on May 24th it is necessary to cancel the trip to Great America, we will implement a contingency plan.  As we approach the date of the Great America trip, we will advise students about the likelihood that we will need to implement the contingency plan.

Parent permission and fees can be submitted as follows:

  • Great America Permission Form - submitted in PowerSchool
  • Great America Ticket - paid through PowerSchool
  • Bus Fee - paid through PowerSchool
  • T-Shirt - required for the trip; ordered and paid through a separate form (attached)

The deadline for submitting the  permissions, fees, and forms is Friday, April 15th by 4:00 p.m.

Here is what parents should look for in PowerSchool to access the permission and fee areas:

In early May parents will receive a letter detailing information about the graduation ceremony along with tickets for the event.

The PTA is making preparations for a celebration of graduation from Attea Middle School. The graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the Watson Auditorium at Glenbrook South High School. Following the graduation ceremony, there will be a party held at Attea to allow students to celebrate with their friends and classmates. There will be a DJ, dancing, food and games.

Immediately following the graduation ceremony, families can briefly celebrate with students in the areas outside the auditorium, including the cafeteria and hallways. In the past, many parents have found it to be less stressful to take all pictures with the family before the ceremony rather than in the crowd immediately after the ceremony. Students will board the buses approximately 15 minutes after the ceremony ends in order to be transported as a group back to Attea for the Graduation Party. ALL students who are attending the Graduation Party are REQUIRED to take the bus from GBS to Attea. The graduation party will take place from approximately 8:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. All students must be picked up promptly at 10:30 p.m. at Attea.

The party will be chaperones by teachers as well as parents of sixth and seventh grade students. This is a school-sponsored event and all school rules governing behavior and dress apply. This party is for Attea eighth graders only – no parents or outside guests will be allowed into the party. In order to maintain a festive atmosphere, as well as to maximize student safety and security, students should plan on being present for the duration of the party. If there is a need for students to leave early, we ask from the party, parents must sign their child out. Students who leave the party may not return under any circumstances.

Parent permission and fees for the Grad Party are submitted through separate Party/T-Shirt/Yard Sign form (attached). Paper copies are available in the main office.

The Springman-Attea PTA has created yard/window signs to celebrate your child’s graduation. Below is a graphic showing the sign.  This is an optional purchase of $10.

The order and fee for the yard sign are submitted through separate Party/T-Shirt/Yard Sign form (attached). Paper copies are available in the main office.

We look forward to celebrating the conclusion of your child’s experience at Attea.  These events will allow us to share fun-filled moments as the Class of 2022.
