Student Activities, Clubs, and Intramurals at Attea
2018-2019 School Year

Clubs and Intramurals meet on different schedules during the week on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.   Late Activity Buses are available to students who stay after school for a supervised activity from 3:05-4:05. Late Buses run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only.  There are no late buses on Thursdays.
 
  • Attea Ambassadors: Mr. Richter - as needed
    • Attea Ambassadors support special events at Attea by welcoming visitors and guests as well as providing information and tours as necessary.  
  • Art Club: Ms. Harwell - Wednesdays
    • We will experience a variety of media and paint the entire musical set. This is a great opportunity to participate in an enriching extracurricular activity. All grade levels are welcome to join art club!
  • Builders Club: Ms. Lindner and Ms. Caputo - Meetings are announced over the PA
    • Builders Club provides students with an opportunity to engage with the community through parcipation in various charitable activities and events throughout the year.
  • Chess Club:   Tuesdays after school
    • Chess Club is a fee-based activity sponsored by our PTA.  Registration forms can be picked up in the office.
  • Come On In Club:  - Volunteer opportunities are shared by teams
    • Come On In Club is a peer program seeking kind and compassionate students to help out during lunch/classroom time in Ms. Weinketz's class! Come On In Club gives students an opportunity to help out once a week for 30 minutes. Students can help Ms. Weinketz's students with academics and life skills, become a friend and mentor, and learn to be patient and flexible!  
  • Design Engineering Club (Formerly MakerSpace Club): Mr. Ristow , Ms. Mocogni, Ms. Davitz  Wednesdays from 3-4 
    • Do you like to design 3D objects, code, play with circuits, create green screen movies? If you do, come join the Design Engineering Club, formerly Maker Space Club. We will meet every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00,  in the LRC. Listen to morning announcements to learn when the first meeting will take place.
  • Drama Club: Ms. Shellard Tuesdays
    • Drama club is open to everyone and is a drop in club.  We meet Tuesdays in Mrs. Shellard's room from 3:00 - 4:05.  During club time, we create characters, play improvisational games and plan events/outings to see theatre.
  • Flyers Follies Talent Show: Ms. Beauregard, Fall and Spring
    • The talent show provides a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their skills as singers, dancers, instrumental musicians, actors, jugglers, acrobats, and more.  Auditions and show dates are announced in the fall and spring.
  • Global Language Cafe: Ms. Welsh,  Tuesdays  
    • This club meets in Mlle. Noonan's room from 3:00 - 4:00pm and in Sra. D'Alessandro's room on Thursday mornings from 7:30am - 8:15am.  This is a great time to work with other students in practicing your French or Spanish lessons, get caught up on work, study for quizzes and tests and enjoy tasty treats!
  • GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance Network): Ms. Lundgren, Ms. Ciske, Mr. Glassner  Every Other Wednesday 
    • This club meets in Mrs. Ciske's room (A217) from 3:00 - 4:00pm.  For more info on what GSA is all about click here.  All students are welcome and snacks are served! 
  • Hispano Youth Leadership Academy (HYLA): Mr. Rodriguez, Ms. Felman, Ms. Perona, Tuesdays
  • Homework Club/Literacy Cafe: Mr. Hansen, Wednesdays and Fridays
    • This club is for any student who wants extra help completing homework and is open to any student who is willing to work (it is not a social hour). Room A220.
  • Intramurals:
    • Tennis: Ms. Beauregard,  Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in the Fall:
    • Golf: Ms. Crane, Dates to be announced
    • Soccer -  Mondays and Tuesdays this Winter
  • Instrumental Music: Ms. ReatherfodMondays
    • Various ensembles - pep band, flute choir, clarinet choir - will provide students with an opportunity to pursue interest in specific music styles.
  • Jazz Band: Mr. GardnerMondays (open to band and orchestra members)
  • Musical: Ms. Shellard, Ms. Beauregard, and Ms. Stanton, Spring
    • The spring musical provides students with an opportunity to perform on the stage as actors, singers, and dancers, as well as learn to build a set and run a show as a member of the Technical Crew.
  • National Junior Honor Society: Ms. Chow and Ms. Bansberg, Spring
    • National Junior Honor Society recognizes students for the contributions as caring community members as well as for the academic achievement.  Consideration for NJHS is based on a student's GPA, and the applications to eligible students are provided in the spring.  Click the NJHS 2019 Application Informational.pdf for more information.
  • Rebecca Caudill Reading Club: Ms. Nekola, Fall
    • Beginning this fall, Glenview Public Library - School Services Librarian, Rachel S., will be making monthly lunchtime visits to Attea's library. Interested students can bring their lunch (Rachel will bring dessert) and talk about the 2018 Caudill List. Students should see Ms. Nekola for more information.
  • Science Olympiad: Ms. Nathaus, Mr. Ristow, Ms. Moon   https://sites.google.com/site/atteascienceolympiad/hom
    • A multiple school competition where a group of students compete in different hands-on events in the fields of biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, engineering and technology.  There are a total of 23 different events that students can participate and compete in at a regional level competition.  The season runs from October through April.  (See Science Olympiad Calendar on schoology or contact Mrs. Nathaus, enathaus@glenview34.org 
  • Student Council: Ms. Smith and Ms. Noonan, Meetings announced throughout the year
    • Student Council is made up group of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who serve the Attea Middle School community and represent the voice of Attea students.  Student Council representatives help promote school spirit, serve as leaders in the school, and have opportunities to become involved in different school and community events throughout the year.
  • Tech Team: Ms. Davitz, Meetings and work throughout the year
    • Students can apply to participate on the Tech Team.  Selected Tech Team members are available during the school day to help troubleshoot tech for their peers, teachers and substitute teachers in the classroom, and they provide occasional tech support for special events.
  • Yearbook Club: Ms. Grammas and Ms. Chow - Most Tuesdays
    • Would you like to help document major events of the school year in Attea's yearbook, using quotes, interviews, and photos? Are you tech savvy and good with graphic design? If so, yearbook is the club for you! We meet periodically during the year to work on layouts, and the season runs through the end of March. If interested, please see Ms. Grammas or Ms. Chow for an application and if you have any questions!
